I’ve never patronised you, and haven’t responded in the past when you’ve had a pop at me. I’m sorry you find my posts ‘smug’. I don’t actually post that often on here about politics because I largely come here for the craic & the NCFC stuff, but these are exceptional times and sometimes my frustration gets the better of me. By all means disagree with my views, but taking umbridge & dismissing them as smug and patronising isn’t an argument against the points I made.
FWIW, Whilst a committed remainer, I do see all sorts of problems with a ‘People’s Vote’ and can understand why Corbyn has been reluctant to wholly embrace the concept. I think we are in a very bad situation with a very divided country, and Brexit is one symptom of that rather than the cause. I do genuinely fear that what is happening in a broader sense does have parallels in history and we seem to have forgotten lessons that previous generations learnt a very hard way. I grew up in Mansfield, experienced the big strikes of the early 70’s and early 80’s at first hand, and with family working in local mines through until the penultimate deep mine closed a few years ago, I’ve also seen the massive economic and social changes in that area and the impact it’s had, so I’m well aware of why many were drawn to seeing leaving the EU as a solution.
Separately, I know you are very patriotic, you’ve made that very clear in many posts on here. I’m not having a pop at you or others for being patriotic, but I do think people who aren’t actually very patriotic misuse that commitment in others - I’d especially point at Mogg and Boris. I wasn’t attacking patriotism, I was attacking its misuse by others.
Have a nice evening:-)
