I remember a time when it was politically incorrect to ask for "black" or "white" coffee

This was back in the day when such things existed of course; we didn't have tall skinny lattes or double-whipped macchiato with an extra shot hold the cinnamon, we just had coffee to which one added milk or not.

I've never actually met a black or Asian person who found anyone's preference for coffee racist. Funnily enough.

I suspect that what happened then as so often is that a bunch of white middle class able-bodied heterosexual yoghurt knitters sat down and decided on everyone else's behalf what might offend them, without bothering to actually ask anyone who is actually in any minority at all.
