I dislike this new narrative, promoted largely by the clubs pet amateur social media journalists and fanzine writers, that our fans get on the players backs. Its not true.
So far we've had:
The Murphy's getting loads of abuse - didn't happen. A few groans at times from fans frustrated at their end product in between singing their name and declaring them "one of our own."
A "large faction" of our support supposedly calling for Farke's head earlier this season - didn't happen. This one even taken up by sky no doubt fed the line by other elements of the media. Yes quite a few lost faith after the Leeds game and said (on here and other forums) that they wouldn't mind if he left but people were not chanting against him or calling for him to be sacked. There has never been a body of fans "calling for his head."
Fans being quiet against Swansea being implied as a reason for our slightly below par performance.
Now we've got fans making out Krul getting stick. Social media commentators queuing up to virtue signal by telling fans who criticise Krul to sort it out. No he isn't. He's a bit of a liability (who incidentally has not won us more points than he;s lost in my view) and fans have commented as much at times during the season but to be honest, given how crap he;s been at times, he'g got remarkably little criticism and fans have stayed very supportive, partly because he seems a decent bloke and partly because we realise he;s the best we've got.
All of this seems to form part of a general narrative that the fans are thick and need to just shut up and get behind the club because the club knows what they are doing. Maybe they do, this season they've got more right than wrong but the fans are not giving any of our players stick at games and have been very supportive all season. If players make mistakes and cost us goals then fans are going to comment on it on social media. That's football and always will be.
