If this deal passes then when the future relationship negotiations start the EU will

basically offer us a customs union and won;t budge and we won't have anywhere to go because the backstop is essentially a customs union. That's one of the real reasons the hardline brexiteers hate the backstop. It makes a customs union almost inevitable as we have absolutely no leverage to get the EU to offer anything else.
