The mood on WACCOE - a few thoughts

1. As posted last night, it was pretty much a full on selwyns pile on of self flagellation in the match day thread. Someone started an ‘It’s not over yet’ thread, some support but most disagreeing. Even the thread author has awarded the title to us already but sees hope in the games to come against WBA & Sheff Utd.

2. A few others have also decided the automatic places will go to us and Sheff United, but not much joy at the thought of play offs and the uber pessimists even questioning that (bonkers!)
“Yes it is over.  We have been poor for weeks now. We are toothless offensively and have absolutely no pace in the wide areas. Hernandez is the only bit of creativity we have in the whole side. It’s not enough. We have become one dimensional. We will limp into the playoffs and get knocked out in the Semi’s.”

“I’m normally a complete optimist against all rationality with Leeds but tonight is the first day since the season started that I think we will at best lose in the play offs. I can see us going to absolute rat s**t and finishing 7th. I just don’t think the squad is good enough and too many players are not in form.“

3. Gloom and despondency over not only the fact that it was QPR on a seven match losing streak, but also that Leeds points per game total over the last 10 games isn’t great (W4 D1 L5 13pts) and the last 12 are relatively harder.

4. Reading the thoughts on their squad made me appreciate even more the depth we have. Quite a few fingers pointed at a key departure (Siaz) and a poor January window:

“I think there is a lot there to be talked about with regards to some of Bielsa's choices when it comes to subs and also his general attitude to signings and what the club itself did in January. I think it's absolutely obvious we f**ked up in January”

and this post summed up what a few others were saying:

“Far too many players in this squad have to start turning up again on a regular basis before you can expect people to believe this squad have the cajones to get us promoted.
The number of players who who have strung together two or three plus good performances in a row since January 1st is small. Far too small for a squad in a promotion battle. They have to turn it around and f**king fast.
This is is a squad we largely know very well though, and as was said in the matchday topic, too many are reverting to type. And far too many of them have shown before that when the going gets tough, they completely lose their nerve.
They have to prove they can shake that off now.  - (They won’t)”

5. All agree that Fridays game against WBA is crucial, but there’s not a lot of confidence. If they win it, however, expect the mood to swing back to very positive 😂
