Other industries don't do this though

You don't get the best male or female X whatever X is in more or less any profession at industry awards. Even in other creative industries: there are no male and female categories at the Grammies or the Brits, I don't think. The Booker Prize is for the best author. Not the best proper manly author and the best pretty girl who also had a go author. Just the best author (won this last year by a woman). For instance.
