you vote for an MP though, not a party

I happen to agree with you in principle (as much as I'd rather they were in parliament as the IG) but it's another symptom of how our political system is not fit for purpose.

the likes of Field and O'Mara should all be up for re-election too (probably too grey an area for those who have the whip removed).

There probably needs to be a mechanism that lets constituents trigger a recall.
