seems to me

The Board want worthington to stay, and are desparate for him to in fact. For his part, Worthington has run out of ideas as to how to turn our fortunes around himself, and has tried to buy his way out of trouble on the presumption that expensive players are good players that will automatically make things better. The Board were happy to give him an open chequebook in the same hope that the new blood would work and they wouldn't have to change the manager. Both parties therefore working on a flawed assumption. As ever, money doesn't buy happiness...

Can't see that the board want to remove Worthington yet, if ever. Only if the business/club was being harmed would they be bound to act, and that wont happen since the fans will continue to go to matches regardless, and I don't think Worthington is so bad that we would be relegated any time soon. The Board seem happy with the position the club usually finds itself (promotion season being an aberration), so I can't see that they will change the manager unless they absolutely have to. And that would take serious fan pressure, not just a few hundred people protesting.

Like the Board, it seems that enough people are happy enough with the situation, or at least - and perhaps crucially - aren't so unhappy that they are actually willing to do anything about it. Change that attitude, and we might get a change of manager. Otherwise, I can't see the board taking such radical action.
