Get a BEV. It's electric all the way.

I wouldn't go anywhere near diesel. With sales devastated there is no chance for selling it on after a couple of years. Your ordinary petrol car will only be a going concern for a handful of years more so factor in absolute depreciation/scrappage value only if you go that route. Hybrid and plug-in electric are mere gateway drugs and you'll just wish you'd gone full EV. Most folk only do a handful of miles a day. I do all my miles on a weekly charge which I've not paid a penny for since May thanks to Bannatyne health clubs.
