My wife's grandfather has been diagnosed, still relatively early stages but can see the strain on my mother-in-law.

I daresay that you're doing a great job and your parent would be very proud, try to stay strong and if you need to get it all off your chest every once in a while then do so...don't keep it bottled up inside.
