I acted for Lloyd’s insurers in 2001 after a large US corporate tried to claim on its business interruption insurance the $175m it had spent on Y2K avoidance measures. The theory was that if they hadn’t spent all that dosh they would have been afflicted by crippling IT issues. We successfully proved that their spend had been a total waste of money because Y2K had been overhyped bollocks. They got nothing except a large bill for our costs.
