No 1 son’s club lined up an event where the club (along with several others) did a couple of hours of training with the academy coaches in the morning, then we all went to the match in the afternoon.
Hats off to Watford for the effort they put in to the whole thing. Loads of people involved and no cost to our club, other than match tickets (where they did a discount deal). All the kids (boys and girls) loved the training even though it was freezing. Clearly this part of a local outreach programme to get locals interested in Watford. This is of course doomed to failure in my house. But I’d rather kids round here supported Watford than go for one of the usual Big 6.
As for the match, the weather was filthy and Watford absolutely bossed it. They play a possession style much like us and looked streets ahead of Cardiff who were abject. Typical Warnock, physical and very direct. The Murphlet played first half before getting the hook. I wasn’t surprised as he had an awful half. Quick, but nothing else. Poor touch, lack of vision and he seemed to be hiding from the ball rather than showing for it. He’s playing in a poor team who won’t build a platform for him to play of course. And we know he’s a confidence player who needs the wind in his sails. Looking at him yesterday though, you’d never believe that 10m+ had been paid for him.
Frankly, I’d be pretty confident that we’d beat Cardiff, if we could handle the bombardment. Watford looked very decent and have some tidy players.
Not sure why I’m sharing all this, but thought it might be interesting.
