I suppose I take the view that it is wise to take a step back from debates such as these

and acknowledge the explanation of the victim/recipient. In this case I think Sterling's statement has been a long time coming and just because racism is less overt, this does not mean that it has gone away. It has just become more sly and inisdious, as detailed in the examples comparing the similar behaviour/actions of young white and black footballers.
