In one of his books

He speaks about a young player who he played with who with influence from his dad chose to leave his club early to join a bigger club for a quick buck and pushed him to play for The Republic of Ireland instead of waiting a bit to see if he was good enough for England. The boy had a lot of talent apparently.

I did a bit of research and discovered that Callam O'Dowda fits this story. He played with Kitson at Oxford.
