Part of it perhaps was the difference in the strikers and attacking midfield. Nelson, for his many talents and abilities, is a phenomenally selfish player. The Murphies, excellent though they were, didn’t have the all-round game to do what Buendía, Hernandez and Cantwell can do. Maddison was just so good that we understandably gave him the ball at every opportunity. In contrast, Pukki, Rhodes and Srbeny work very hard for the whole 90+ minutes and are totally selfless. With Buendía, Cantwell and Anal (and also Stiepermann and Vrancic) we have a multi-faceted attack not reliant on a striker whose movement and erratic attitude was so frustrating.
And no Marley Watkins either. What the f**k was that about?
