never wore one until 3 years ago when some sportives made them compulsory and I didnt want to get kicked off! I got a decent one and it is much better than I thought. THe only snag is that I feel quite vulnerable when I dont wear it! THere are a couple of advantages - cycling in the heat does seem to be cooler than without one - and they are handy for going round Morrisons - if you are only getting a couple of things they are easier than a basket!
