what question would be asked, and what would be done with the answer?
If the vote is on the "deal" (as sometimes is said) what happens if the deal is rejected... no deal? Or go and get a better one? What if they can't?
If reversing the last decision is on the menu - then on what terms? What if it's not open to us to stay on the original terms? Do we have another referendum to decide upon whatever terms are then agreed?
How quickly can a referendum be organised and run?
And ... can you even begin to imagine how divisive it would be ...
Parliament must deal with it. If it can't, then there must be an election. One of the few things I think to emerge clearly from al this is that referenda on difficult and multifaceted questions are dangerous and stupid.
