It is clearly not acceptable for a sovereign nation to not

be able to extricate itself from an arrangement it has agreed to join under a treaty.

Raab is absolutely spot on. The use of the Ireland situation by the EU has in truth been pretty scandalous and the ineptitude of those negotiating on our behalf (admittedly not aided by the very unfortunate circumstance of the government having to rely on the DUP after fighting the sh*ttest election campaign in history) to have allowed us to be backed into a corner like this is also pretty staggering.

Sort out the future relationship and no backstop is needed. That should have been our stance right from the very beginning. Its breaking up the discussions into withdrawal, transition and future that has caused this mess and there is nothing within Article 50 or any treaty that said it has to be done like this.

As far as i'm concerned we either need to hard brexit or just say this is too difficult and have a second vote after which we will obviously vote to remain.
