I’m not so sure

I would see Vrancic competing for the Leitner role as the slightly deeper lying playmaker.

What Steiperman brings is actually the ability to travel with the ball in the final third, hold it up and bring other players into the attack. His physical strength is an asset and he has good feet for a big man. I’m not sure Vrancic can do that role in the same way, in the same way that Leitner struggled. Vrancic has looked very good in his recent cameos though, and I didn’t see the game last night.
