Wondered when someone would mention that!
Looking back through the Sky Sports archive on Bentley, my hatred towards him has dissipated quite a bit, because:
a) After that astonishing Guardian interview, he did seem to stop saying ridiculously stupid/arrogant things in public and found some good things to say about us as a club, and
b) I've decided that Bentley's failure to do anything constructive (except in one or two games) was as much to do with Nigel Worthington as it was him, and it's clear that Mark Hughes - a far better manager - knows what to do with him.
That said, I still don't think Bentley's ever going to be good enough for the full England side (Rooney, Owen, Crouch, Bent, Ashton, Johnson, Heskey, Vassell, Luke Moore, Defoe are all better strikers than him, and young enough, and better forwards will come through, like Walcott) and if he was really *that* good we'd have seen it last season, despite NW's ineptitude.
Oh, and that interview and *that* Fulham performance aren't really forgiveable ...
