Dear Mr Doncaster
I enclose my season ticket renewal for season 2006-07 & I do so for one reason only,
I Love Norwich City Football Club & supporting the Club is what my family &
myself do. I have no belief in the Current management team whatsoever & I sadly
am starting to have great reservations about the Directorship of our Club & this is
something that exasperates me as I was delighted with the new Board members & the
Guidance they have given the Club since the dark days of Mr Chase.
I in no way believe in Nigel Worthington but I thank him for the Promotion season &
for the play off season, the bottom line is I have never liked his dour, negative style of
play but obviously when you are winning & doing well from a results & league
position basis you accept it. As a Board of Directors you have given him the greatest
resource that any manager has ever had in the history of the Club & I fear that he has
wasted that resource on the poor playing personnel & a ridiculous amount of loan
signings. Saying that I still believe that under a decent manager these players would
perform to a much higher level.
I look at the youngsters that come through our academy & reserve structure & they
seem to progress up until they reach 1st team level, at which point they are either
played out of position or brought on when the team is generally struggling & this is
not conducive to their development, we then see these young players go backwards
either at our Club or are released & go on to make a name for themselves somewhere
else. I give you Paul Hayes & even more annoyingly Danny Crow a player who was
Norwich through & through & a player who I saw coming up through the academy, a
player who most Norwich fans thought would be an excellent 1st team player. It pains
me to say that 40 odd miles up the Road youngsters continue to come through their
system. Under Worthington?s leadership we have not produced 1 outfield player in his
time here who has gone on to establish himself in the side. You cannot tell me that
Henderson, Shackell, Ryan & Rossi Jarvis, Spillane, to name but a few are any less
talented than Haynes, Garvan, & some others who I don?t really care to mention. The
truth of the matter is that Worthington can?t handle youthful exuberance & lacks trust
in them when he plays them hence play them out of position where they can be
hidden.
I will then bring you to my disgust with how he treats senior players & his falling out
with players down the years his treatment of Rivers, Malky,Jonson, Helveg, Svenson,
Bentley Hucks, Libbra, Jarrett Drury & the Captaincy situation, (how many captains
have we had this season) is Dreadful man management. How Mcveigh can be treated
the way he has is scandalous the one bright spot in a dreadful season is watching the
skill of McVeigh & Hucks who I class as 2 proper footballers.
I move onto injuries to leave Deano on with a serious head injury when he was clearly
not well & to play Robinson with broken ribs beggars belief. He will say it is down to
the players but he is Manager & should make that decision, risking players is a
disgrace. Generally our fitness record under Worthington is awful & I believe we
have so many injuries due to the work ethic on the training ground, whenever I have
visited Colney all I view is players running & running & running.
Do we work on set pieces? because all I see is a team bereft of ideas from Free kicks
& corners, I don?t even trust us if we get a penalty, all this ??who ever is confident can
take them?? is beyond belief. The reason Greeno never saves a penalty is because we
come up against well drilled teams who know who the dedicated penalty taker is & he
usually sticks it in the top corner.
All Worthington talks about is fitness & work rate, well I am sorry any other team can
do fitness & work rate, the difference between top sides & mediocre sides is passing
(something we have never done well under his leadership), skill, pace & pressure. I
never once hear Worthington talk about these essential parts to a successful side.
I have been a fan for 35 years I have been through good & bad & I don?t expect an
awful lot, I obviously want to see us in the Premiership but most of all I want to see
good exciting, passing football & I don?t care what league it?s in. We have in Hucks,
McVeigh & Earnshaw 3 players who would walk into any other side in this league
Sadly under this Manager they are wasted, I urge the Directors of this Club to take
action to rectify these problems.
The Club has worked wonders to build up a loyal & dedicated band of supporters, It is just as easy to lose these fans & all the good work will be undone.
If I continue to see the same style of unorganised negative football that I have witnessed under Worthington?s leadership next year at this time I won?t even care to
