Why do so many people seem to think we will do better next season?

I keep reading quotes like “we are a work in progress this season”. Yes that may be true. But imo we are going to lose our best players in the summer which will make us a significantly worse team in the future. Imagine this team without Olive, Madds, Pritchard, Klose, Gunn etc. It would be a pretty s**t side wouldn’t it? We won’t replace those players with better ones or equal ones. IMO after this season relegation is much likely than promotion.
