I genuinely did laugh at the ending though.

I loved how he'd become so involved with the case that he'd got his work colleagues worried for him and he'd lost his girlfriend because his behaviour had changed.
I loved that his panic attack at the end reflected this as he realised this and is now either sympathising with serial killers or/and he's thinking and acting like one mentally.
