It was much better than I thought it would be, probably the second best documentary I've ever seen. I think the weaknesses it had were inevitable, it was a documentary made by and for Americans - so the American tragedy bit was over-emphasized. Having said that, there was a lot more of the Vietnamese viewpoint than I've seen before.
In terms of the interviewees, I think it's a shame that they didn't have McCain & Kerry - I wonder if they tried?
I thought the politicos were presented well - JFK clearly wasn't going to get the US out. Nixon's unremitting self-interest is astonishing. LBJ came out of it better than I thought he would - I reckon if there had been no Vietnam War he might be regarded as the greatest President ever.
In the end 10 hours isn't long enough to do all the different strands of the story justice - which is why I think "The World At War" is superior.
Still a hell of a piece of work though.
