I’ve been listening to this new Football Manager podcast where they speak to several past and present managers about different sides of the job - highly recommended. Anyway, MM is one of them and as straight-up as he is, he does indeed indeed come across as a dinosaur in terms of his approach. He basically doesn’t care about any kind of analytics and is obsessed with getting ‘McCarthy-type’ players, yet seems completely incapable of articulating what that means. Comparing that mentality with the way that Farke expressed his approach in the Grauniad earlier couldn’t set them apart more starkly.
I should point out he’s not the most dim-witted of them on the podcast - that prize would have to go to a Stuart Pearce, with pseudy Pardew a close second.
