having been to Cuba many times with my Cuban partner, I can say that's total bollocks

Compared to similar nations in that part of Latin America/caribbean, the situation for Cubans is significantly better in terms of almost everything you can imagine, so let's stop this utter cobblers spouted by people with no f**king idea other than the s**te they've read in the Mail.

Education, health and crime figures are all far and away better than in any other similar nations and plenty better than in many richer nations. Yes there are many 'poor' people by Western European terms, but none of them are starving to death or forced to turn to crime to make ends meet unlike virtually everywhere else in Latin America.

Nor are people forced to work incredibly long hours, with most people earning a standard wage and working very short hours indeed - 3-4 hours a day in many cases.

Try going to Haiti or the Dominican Republic as two very similar nations to see what the differences are.
