marking players from crosses and winning headers.

our defending was not that bad earlier in the season in the sense that teams were not opening us up constantly. They were just scoring from virtually every attack they had and normally from crosses/high balls where we didn't prevent the cross from coming in (or put enough pressure on the crosser) or we didn't win the defensive header or second ball. Generally we were bossing games in terms of possession and normally restricting the opposition to a handful of opportunities.
