If you watch the actual interview

which most won't and certainly the media reports won't bother to transcribe the rest of it, you will see that he was ambushed by Morgan and Reid who basically spent the entire interview bringing up these subjects knowing full well what his response would be given his catholic faith.

I'm no great fan of Catholicism but I respect people's right to believe what they like provided that they do not attempt to impose it on others and its not harming others. The point that he made continuously was trying to draw out the distinction between personal beliefs and religious beliefs and laws enacted by parliament. So basically yes he said he opposes abortion in all circumstances because he believes life is sacred but then he also said that he would not and parliament would never take away someone's right to an abortion by changing the law.

many will not agree with his views, many will but will not admit to agreeing with his views but in reality he was pretty honest and straight down the line in his responses and ended up making his interviewers look pretty stupid but of course the headlines and soundbites are all that the news will seize upon.

Why is it not possible for people to just have different views on things and accept that this is the case? Its not like he's advocating changing the law or chucking gays off tall buildings or anything.
