Gun time is the time between the first start "the gun" and your finish.

Your chip time is the time between you actually crossing the start line, and crossing the finish line. So, for folks in the blue wave, like me, our start was three minutes after the first start, so my gun time is three and bit minutes longer than my chip time. For the gazelles at the very front of the first wave the gun time and chip time will be the same.
