FAO Word geeks - how the flip do I centre a footer in Word?

It's a jpg with equal white space either side of it.

It keeps aligning the right hand edge of the footer to the right hand edge of the page.

I hate Word.

in the Home tab, in the Paragraph section, click on the thing that looks like a centred
