it was a lot easier for a club like us to thrive in the top flight in those days. Since then Sky's money and focus on the Prem has stacked the deck heavily in favour of the bigger clubs and those with ultra-rich sugar daddys (Fulham, Middlesborough, Blackburn etc). So to compare the boards in terms of league positions is pointless and misleading..
