He can negotiate to be paid up on his contract?

His next gig wouldn't have to be as well paid because he already has banked a good percentage of his current contract.

With us selling Howson and Murphy early we are in a much better financial position.
He is still a good player at this level. I'm sure he has earned decent wages over his career and might just want to do what he wants.

He has 2 years left on his current deal. Might be worth taking the security of a longer 3 year deal with rangers for less money.
