The guest from the east of England has two Ligapokalsiege in the letter head. Norwich City FC is being trained by Daniel Farke, who last year was a candidate for the succession of Rüdiger Rehm in Bielefeld. The German newcomers Christoph Zimmermann, Mario Vrancic and Marcel Franke were in the starting line. Jeff Saibene initially used only pre-season players.
The first quarter of the game played mainly in the midfield. Both teams were certainly on the defensive. Arminia played one or another handsome combination, but the highly defending Englishmen barely had any influence. When Arminia was able to make the game fast for the first time, it was just as dangerous: Fabian Klos, used as a hanging top, played a clever pass on Christoph Hemlein, who missed the goal just halfway through. Hemlein also chased the next chance - Klos and Keanu Staude missed his sharp hereing.
Norwich City lurked for mistakes, then quickly switched over. The tactics went in the 37th minute. Julian Börner lost the ball on the right-hand defense against the rugged striker Cameron Jerome. He put the ball back in the middle. Steven Naismith also flattened 15 meters to lead the guests.
But the DSC responded immediately. Fabian Klos headed on to Andreas Voglsammer, who defended his opponent and goalkeeper Angus Gunn did not give a chance from a short distance. Just a minute later, Fabian concluded from a distance. His shot went over the bar. After a bordering two-man tie in the Bielefeld penalty area, referee Wollenweber decided on a penalty. Jerome turned 1: 2. The penalty was the last action of the first half.
Josh Murphy had missed the goal of Stefan Ortega just a few minutes after the restart. In contrast, Hemlein shot a free-kick just over the box. Norwich was now more compelling and came to some degrees. In the 60th minute, Saibene then replaced seven new players. The "new Arminia" proved committed, but not as secure as in the first half. Nils Quaschner, Brian Behrendt and the eye-catching Nils Teixera tried it from a distance. After a misdemeanor by Patrick Weihrauch, Jerome appeared in front of Ortega, but only hit the post. In the 79th minute both teams changed again several times. Four minutes before the final whistle, the Nelson Oliveira, who had been replaced, provided a remarkable solo for the decision in favor of the guests. Nils Teixera finished with a distance shot, which Gunn spectacularly defused.
Norwich City was the more effective, clever team that used the few mistakes of an otherwise safe arm defense. Despite isolated discomfort, the spectators after the game in summer celebration evening mood to the 1.893 liters of Freibier to taste, the VfB Stuttgart as a thank you for Arminias Schützenhilfe in the ascension race had donated.
