Why did the BBC publish salaries of its "stars"?

Because they were told to by the Government.

Why?

Because the Government is trying to weaken the BBC as it has long considered it to be too left wing in its output. Anything to reduce its public image is helpful. They can then push an agenda of budget reduction.

Anyone that fails to see the truth of this is being pretty naïve if you ask me.

They can dress this up as "increased accountability", but its pretty clear what the Government is up to and why. There's a s**t load of accountability in the BBC chain of command, lots of checks and balances. And its probably worth adding that most of these people could earn more if they jumped ship to commercial TV.

While I'm having a grumble, has anyone noticed the series of negative stories about Philip Hammond recently, mostly in the filthy Tory press? We've had "even women can drive trains", "public sector is overpaid", and a load of "defying the will of the people on Brexit".

Interesting that this seems to have coincided with Gove's return to Government, no? Make absolutely no mistake, this is a concerted programme to get one of the few vaguely sensible people out of the cabinet, so he could be replaced by....ooo....I don't know....Michael Gove?
