I've done it for 4 years

If you the type of person who can sleep on the train it is certainly handy.
If you value doing sociable things in the evening forget it - if you have anything planned you can be sure train will be late.
Very importantly, if you can work at home at least one day a week (Wednesday is my favourite to break the week up) that really really does help. Otherwise you spend all weekend just catching up with stuff at home.
Get a good ipad for downloading stuff and podcasts.
The punctuality hasn't improved over the last 20 years. A lot of trains are 1approx 0 mins late, but not many horrendous delays. Any type of unusual weather: storms, heat, snow, wind, has adverse effect service.
