To me from all the noises it looks like he will be mainly used as the utility player off the bench unless we have a lot of injuries.

To be honest it makes a lot of sense. If you have one player who can fill in across the back line and maybe even just in front of the back 4 then that gives you more options of the bench.
It also means we don't have to carry as many squad players.

While he did sign a new contract. It might have been for the same or less money. My guess he does well if we get promoted, which is OK by me.
