Start saying player 'x' has a price and any buying cluibs will come in low and expect to get a good deal out of it for themselves. The player, meanwhile, having learnt that he's available if anyone is interested, is hardly going to be motivated to stick around and will agitate for a move as quickly as possible, thus increading the possibility he ends up going for a lower than could be expected price.
If the player is said to be "not for sale", a buying club might be more tempted to chance their hand by lobbing in an offer that they tihnk might be hard to refuse-meanwhile, the afore mentioned player 'x feels just a little more valued and part of things and is therefore not so likely to push for a move.
Feels as if Olivera is as good as gone now if someone puts in an offer for the reasons given.
