I went to Holland recently and decided to go to Arnhem due to my interest in WW2 as I always wanted to visit the area to see where the British attempted to recapture the Arnhem Road Bridge from the Germans known as 'The Battle of Arnhem'. The bridge was renamed The John Frost bridge in 1978 after the Major General who led the attack. My interest took me into a war museum overlooking the bridge and after a while I struck up a conversation with the curator not about the war, but about NCFC playing Vitesse Arnhem in UEFA cup in 93/94. He told me to wait and duly went off and got his iPad to show me Efan Ekoku scoring against the Dutch side. All very surreal talking Norwich City in a war museum in Holland. At the end of my visit I asked the curator 'How do the Dutch few the British as the attempt to recapture the bridge was a failure?' He said 'They will always be heroes'. I said 'But they failed'. He said 'Yes, but they gave it their all and for that reason they are heroes.' I thought wow and boy was i proud to be British that day. Although Norwich won't win every battle this coming season, I hope they will adopt that same Dutch courage the british showed in 1944 by at least 'giving it their all'..and who knows, they could be heroes too
