I'm a bit confused by the term snowflake

I thought it was coined to refer to millennials who were brought up by over indulgent parents to believe that they were unique (like snowflakes are supposed to be) and therefore have an inflated view of their own importance in the world.

But now it seems to be used to refer to anyone who can't take the slightest form of criticism or contrary view or anything which they think impinges or their rights (which is objectionable but not really like a snowflake).
