what uni? what class of degree?

sadly the answers to tbiae will massively impact his chances.

Did he do any vacation placements or mini pupillages with law firms/barristers chambers whilst an undergrad? if not why not? (ie lack of awareness, lack of effort, or tried and failed?)

family background? eg first one to go to uni? privileged background or from a sinkhole council estate?

where is he based?

does he really, really, really want to do law? (why?) has he thought about alternative careers? what actually interests him?

I'm assuming he wants to be a paralegal in order to become a solicitor or barrister eventually - as a warning note it can be a dead end though.

I am not one to want to piss on anyone's parade but it is f**king hard now to get a training contract (to be one of my lot) and it has always been hard to get a pupillage (to be one of OG's lot) and my advice is likely to be along the lines of to try something else (law is f**k anyway).

BUT having been in his shoes 14 years ago I will be as helpful as I can...
