you can't stop the terrorism at point of delivery - you can try to contain it but there are too many soft targets. I'm still amazed that no-one has bombed Birmingham New Street, Bristol Temple Meads, Clapham Junction or any number of key railway stations - you'd bring some of the mainlines to a complete halt, carnage at rush hour etc. in sone respects we are lucky there is so much focus on London where they have the security apparatus in place. An attack in the heart of, say, Norwich wouldn't have the same global TV impact but conversely you're not going to have it resolved in 8mins either... things could be so much worse. Manchester was a glimpse of it.
medium term, sort out some of the key issues in our society - education, employment prospects, housing. You don't tend to think life will be better by blowing yourself up if you have a proper stake in society, nor will you be as receptive to being brainwashed if they can't point to suffering/disadvantages in your life and blame them on the kuffars etc.
but the only way you will stop it, long term, is by addressing the root causes and that is a multi-generation effort that'll also involve that elusive thing - peace and prosperity in the Middle East and further afield. and that'll involve such a sea change in global politics and transfer of wealth to the developing world that I doubt I will ever see real progress in my lifetime.
