We managed to get debenture tickets through my sister's ex-husband. Nice, you might say, except he neglected to tell us that the seats were in the middle of the Boro fans.
As part of the package, we had a meal in the restaurant on that side of the ground. Picture the scene, my 80yo dad, my sis, nephew and I quickly stuffed our scarves into a bag and went into the dining room. There were 3 choices, beef, chicken and veggie. I'm a veggie so that is what I ordered.
About 10 minutes later, the table next to us were receiving their food. All of a sudden, a thick Boro accent exclaimed 'I'm not a bloody vegetarian and I'm sure no Boro fan is a bloody vegetarian'. At that the staff realized they had served the wrong group and moved the dishes over to our table.
Turns out the Boro supporter was probably right. Out of 500 people in that room, I was probably the only veggie and I was indeed not a Boro fan.
To cut a long story short, the section manager realized our predicament and manage to swap our seats into the Norwich section (thank god).
On the way around to our new seats we happened to bump into Steven Fry on his way to the Directors box - super nice guy btw.
Once the game was over, we stayed in the bar to continue drinking, only leaving when they threw us out. As we were leaving, my sister beckoned us over to another lounge nearby. I wandered in, in a drunken stupor, and realized my sister had somehow managed to blag our way into the players lounge where all the players were also, by this time, pretty hammered.
We spent the next 30 minutes high-fiving the players and taking pictures.
All together, truly one of the best days of my life!
