He's more experience than Alex Neil, which is a step in the right direction; but it's still not a great amount more and, perhaps more importantly, he has zero experience in England.
All that being said we are limited in our options and I don't think we could have done much better. Yes it's a risk, but I would rather take a risk on someone like Farke than go for a has-been manager looking for his latest in a line of mediocre appointments or a well-known player looking to turn his hand to management for the first time.
So I am cautiously optimistic.
Hopefully the fans will get behind him, and I'm sure they will - we all get a little dizzy when we have a new manager! But we also need the board to support him in the summer with signings + we also need the board to have a plan B in mind if things go pear-shaped - long-termism is a great thing in principle if you can afford it and you know you have the right person, but we can't afford to stick with a relatively untested manager if things are not going well. If we're not in the top 6 come Xmas, then I hope they will consider all options.
