Presumably they will have to have zero assets (apart from their house) before

they get any contribution from the state. That's a horrible prospect for any old person to contemplate I would imagine. Currently they're allowed £23,000 or thereabouts. Below that, the contribution is tapered, and isn't generous at any point.
