You've got to put faith in whoever you appoint

Name a manager with a proven record of unblemished success we could realistically have appointed? There's always an element of risk. All the best managers this club has had were pretty unproven when appointed.
This is more of an art than a science - there is no magic formula for success. Some clubs are successful with an 'old-style' manager and some with a director of football approach. And equally some clubs fail with either approach (in football more clubs always fail than succeed, hence the short job tenancy of most managers).
