I only have a Mayor to vote for, and I am not giving my tacit backing to the concept of such an additional wasteful layer of government by being included in the turnout statistics.

People died for the right to vote against tyranny. Yes.

But it's a weak argument. Forcing people to vote (by statute like Australia, or simply by societal pressure) is a form of tyranny in itself.
