I would say that he was bought more for his experience and name rather than with a consideration for where he would play in the team.

For example, it strikes me that he might be better suited to a 442 but when we are playing one up where does he go, especially with Wes? Hence him getting stuck out wide a lot, to less effect.

This has been a pattern of our signings for some time though. Ricky was not suited as a lone striker, for example.
