PM: Tombs - re ref arms swinging business...

The "cutting the grass" gesture isn't in the laws or even in the Interpretation Guidelines on Law 5 (The Referee). There are only 5 official signals in law (3 of which look the same);
Direct free kick
Advantage
Indirect Free kick/Issuing a yellow card/Issuing a red card (all look the same - one arm straight up in the air)

However it's become trendy as part of the ref's communication using body language in addition to voice and use of the whistle.

The Assistant Referee has 11 official signals in law;
Substitution
Throw in attack
Throw in defence
Goal kick
Corner kick
Offside offence
Offside near side
Offside centre field
Offside far side
Foul defender
Foul attacker

Each are combined with signal-blip flags at level 8 of the pyramid and above (I always found them a bit of a pain to use to be honest... and bloody expensive!!)

Long and boring - apologies 😴
