I'm not sure I can imagine a worse way to go

MND must be pretty bad: gradually losing control of your body and knowing full well that in all likelihood what will actually finish things is no longer being able to breathe, resulting in a slow, terrifying, choking death.

But dementia is a lingering death over a decade or more where bits of you suddenly aren't there any more. You're very aware of this until quite near the end.

I've done a kind of living-letter-of-wishes which I'm sure doesn't really cut it legally. But if I ever get in either state I want a line drawn, earlier rather than later. I've watched my Dad die of dementia and - doubtless selfishly - I don't want the same for me. I'd much rather say goodbye while I was able and then just go.
