How I saw it:-
Ruddy, not much to do, made no mistakes
Dijks, always tries to go outside and rarely did so yesterday. Terrific header against the bar, not in the net unfortunately.
Pinto, great turn of pace, went missing for their goal
Martin, great game, but never under any sort of pressure
Klose, good game, but never under any sort of pressure
Howson, tidy and involved
Tettey, good game, good covering.
Murphy, played well, unfortunate not to score, tried hard and should have had a penalty in the last minute
Wes, sublime, unplayable
Pritchard, superb
Oliveira, made all the difference. Holds the ball well, comes deep, goes out wide, likes a shot. Reading had no idea where he was
I would have liked to see Wildshut come on into a winning side to really see what he’s made of.
So for next season:
We still desperately need a dominant centre half who organises and cajoles the defence. One with a no nonsense, take no prisoners, they shall not pass approach. At least one more central defender
Thompson to be fit and a like for like cover for him.
At least three fullbacks if Toffolo not considered good enough, it not two plus Toffollo.
Another striker to supplement Oliveira and Jerome
Farewells to:
Lafferty, never made it
Bennett, never lived up to potential
Dorrans, able but aging
Mulumbu, rarely played, even rarer to his potential
Andreu
Whittaker, aging
Bassong, aging
Turner, aging
Jarvis, never made it and we have two Murphys and Wildshut
Naismith, never really made it
McGovern, not good enough
Make or break for:
Toffollo
Rudd
Morris
